Simon Wood has announced that after seven years he is being forced to close his Manchester City Centre restaurant
Wood has blamed COVID rent arreas now being demanded, increases in business rates and energy costs as being behind the decision
At the weekend he posted on X about being let down by a booking for his chef’s table not turning up
The 46 year old Chef and former data manager was the winner of the 2015 masterchef competition when he wowed judges John Torode and Gregg Wallace with his menu inspired by classic flavour combinations, Octopus and Chorizo, Pigeon and Blackberry and Lemon and Lime.
In a statement later posted on X the chef added:
“Thank you to everyone for the messages of support I’ve received today.
Also, Thanks to those who have stuck the boot in while I’m down, either with unnecessary words or deafening silence
I may well be down, but I’m not out, and I really do appreciate the motivation.”
