Reform UK candidate for Greater Manchester Mayor Sian Astley has pledged to bring back visible policing by supporting hubs across the city-region, inspired by a Reform councillor’s initiative in Wigan.
Wigan Central councillor Lee Moffitt recently announced funding a retail unit that the police could use as a base next to Wigan Bus Station after the area became plagued with antisocial behaviour. This followed the closure of an office that the police previously used to base themselves in the area.
Sian joined Cllr Moffitt for a tour of the new unit, which is set to open on 1 August, and is being personally funded by Cllr Moffitt for the first 12 months. After this time, he plans to put a proposal to the council to secure the unit’s long-term future.

“Police should be out on the streets fighting crime, not filling out forms. Cllr Moffitt’s excellent idea will ensure that police are visible, out on the streets and tackling crime in our communities. That’s exactly why I want to roll this scheme out across the whole of Greater Manchester.”
Cllr Astley has already pledged to make Greater Manchester Police into the toughest police force in Britain, tripling the use of stop and search to take knives off the streets, increasing police presence in Manchester City Centre at night, and imposing a zero-tolerance approach to drug crimes.
