Rochdale made it four games unbeaten following a 1-1 draw with Bristol Rovers. Despite going behind after nine minutes, Alex Newby pulled one back for the home side 15 minutes later. Even though Rochdale had 18 shots, only three hit the target in an even match which was worthy of the scoreline.

Wigan Athletic suffered their fourth defeat in the last five games, the loss sees them drop into the bottom four. Wigan was two down within the first 21 minutes with Northampton hitting two quick-fire goals. A spirited second-half display saw Latics grab two goals; One from the spot and a Tom James header making it 3-2. However, a late shot against the post sums up Wigan’s luck at the moment.

Into League Two

A first half to forget for Bolton Wanderers as they suffered yet another defeat, this time a 4-0 hiding to the hands of Leyton Orient. Ian Evatt is under immense pressure already in the early stages of the season and with one win in the last five, the time may be running out for the former Barrow man.

In an all Greater Manchester affair, former Oldham Athletic and current Salford City interim boss Paul Scholes grabbed all three points with a convincing 2-0 win. Salford’s man of the moment James Wilson opened the scoring after 24 minutes, with Ash Hunter adding a second 15 minutes from time. Harry Kewell would not have been expecting an easy ride when he turned up at Oldham, but this will be his hardest job yet.

Non-League

Stockport County suffered their second defeat of the season against Weymouth. A Whelan winner, five minutes from time was enough to secure the 2-1 win for the away side, despite going behind after 14 minutes.

Their neighbours and fellow National League side Altrincham finally picked up their first win of the season. An Adarabioyo goal after 11 minutes was enough to secure Phil Parkinson’s first win. Altrincham are now three games unbeaten.

Curzon Ashton suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Darlington. A game that was very stop-start and not much to watch from both sides somehow yielded three goals. Steve Cunningham will be looking to bounce straight back this week after two defeats on the trot.

Ramsbottom United continued their impressive start to the season with a 2-1 win over Prescot Cables, while Mossley lost 1-0 to Widnes in the other league match.

The FA Trophy 3rd qualifying round took centre stage with the majority of our side taking part. Ashton United got back to winning ways with a 1-0 win over Clitheroe following a COVID break. FC United crashed out of the FA Trophy with a last-gasp winner for Marske United making it 3-2, following an 89th minute equalise from United’s Fowler.

Hyde United made it through with a 2-1 win over Frickley Athletic. Hyde went one goal behind after four minutes, However, James and Hollins either side of the half time break secured the win for the Tigers.

Stalybridge Celtic lost 3-2 to Marine in a back and forth match that seen Cummins progress Marine to the next round with the last goal of the game on 63 minutes. Radcliffe also dropped out with a 2-1 defeat to Bamber Bridge.
