Northern Rep has teamed up with Great Northern Warehouse to open Manchester’s newest theatre in the heart of the city centre. The theatre will also house the city’s first rep company in over 50 years.

The new theatre, with the aim of becoming the beating heart of the city’s theatre community, will open its doors for a limited engagement from 21st March 2017 before opening permanently from May 2017, and the theatre will launch with an immersive club-land reimagining Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream.

Great Northern Warehouse Centre Director, Mark Schofield said:

“We are delighted to welcome Northern Rep to the Great Northern Warehouse. The team has a track record of delivering unforgettable performances and I know that our visitors will be wowed by what they put on. It’s the first time we’ve utilised the Great Northern Warehouse as a theatre venue, and the space is shaping up really well for Northern Rep.”

The Director of Northern Rep, Thomas Moore said:

“The opportunity to bring rep theatre back to Manchester after an absence of over 50 years is such an honour. There is no place better in the country than Manchester and we’re incredibly excited to be able to bring an independent theatre mindset to the very heart of the city centre – don’t expect a traditional theatre-going experience! We’ve been working with the owners of the historic Great Northern Warehouse over the past four months to find the perfect space to realise our plans and we can’t wait to get going.”
