Greater Manchester Mental Health Trust are to rename the former Edenfield Centre in Prestwich which was at the centre of a scandal following a period of undercover filming at the mental health unit back in 2022.

The trust says that the name change follows  earlier this year with around 45% of our Edenfield inpatients, carers and staff.

“We have spoken at length with inpatients, carers and staff at the Centre, and listened to their thoughts, feelings and ideas. They told us that they would like a new name which reflects their views and wishes to look forwards.

Together, we have agreed this important change, which marks a significant milestone in our recovery journey. It recognises our commitment to building better services and delivering care that matters for all our communities. “

Karen Howell, Chief Executive of Greater Manchester Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust (GMMH) said:

“This is about recognising that we’re moving forward, reflecting on the past and working hand in glove with our service users and the staff who support those service users in that centre, to rebuild our medium and low secure services.”
