Virgin Train’s attempts to run trains on the West Coast line from London to Manchester and Lumo’s proposal to run cut price services from Manchester have been blocked by the rail regulator
The Office of Road and Rail have said that there is insufficient capacity on the line and the new services would disrupt both freight and passenger services
Lumo aimed to operate six daily services on weekdays and Saturdays between London Euston and Rochdale, and four daily services on Sundays.
The trains would have stopped at Manchester Victoria, Eccles, Newton-le-Willows, and Warrington Bank Quay
