Good news music fans – Premiere indie song-smiths, whenyoung have announced a huge UK tour. Tickets are on sale now (available at https://www.gigsandtours.com/search?browseOrder=Soonest&q=whenyoung&dst=&dend) and ahead of a return in October the Limerick band vowed “Manchester has the best crowds!”
The culmination of years of playing and writing together, highly anticipated debut ‘Reasons to Dream’ showcases Aoife Power’s (bass/vocals), Niall Burns’ (guitar) and Andrew Flood’s (Drums) ability to craft spikey yet melodic songs which delve lyrically into everything from love and insecurities to pacificism and the gap between the haves and have-nots in Britain today.
The album, released back in May through through Virgin EMI, marks the next milestone in a journey that started for the band when they first met as teenagers, originally forming under the name Sisters. They told Manchester music blog www.TheJournalix.com: “It was our learning phase, our stepping stone to Whenyoung. We changed our name when we felt like we wanted a refresh in everything that we were doing.”
They continued: “We take inspiration from all mediums of art. Musically it’s always changing for us but we have a mutual touchstone of early punk and great bands from the 70s. Stuff like Blondie, Television, Patti Smith and The Stooges.”
The band have gone from strength to strength, gracing stages at festivals everywhere including supporting Blossoms at Manchester’s Victoria Warehouse back in December: “That tour was amazing for us. They have incredible fans, the two nights at The Victoria Warehouse were crazy!”
They return to this great city as part of a nationwide tour later this year: “We love playing in Manchester, it has the best crowds. Can’t wait for Gorilla in October.”
