Nothing heralds the arrival of Christmas more then watching a classic festive film, and this year, The Village Screen Pop-up Cinema will be decking the halls of Manchester’s Victoria Baths to deliver the ultimate seasonal cinematic line up.

The Edwardian grandeur of Manchester’s water palace will be the backdrop for enjoying these classic films at their best, on the big screen! The Gala pool with its period detailing and ornate tiles make a stunning setting for a memorable festive treat to enjoy with family or friends.

The seasonal screenings kick off with an alternative festive favourite that will have everyone on the edge of their seats. Showing on Friday 7 December Bruce Willis’ Die Hard has got that 80s feel, with the drama unfolding on Christmas Eve, when what starts as a Christmas party ends up as an adrenalin charged hostage situation.

Saturday 8 December brings with it a bundle of Christmas cheer with two of the most beloved family films of all time. The Muppets Christmas Carol tells Dickens’ classic tale of Scrooge and Tiny Tim, with Kermit, Miss Piggy and Gonzo taking centre stage and putting a smile on everyone’s faces. Then get ready for a screening of holiday stalwart Home Alone. This 1990 film has every seasonal ingredient to make it pitch perfect as we follow the exploits of Kevin McCallister (Macauley Culkin) as he attempts to outwit a couple of clueless criminals.

A pair of winter warmers arrives on Sunday 9 December. Elf has established itself amongst the pantheon of Christmas greats, with a brilliant comic performance from Will Ferrell as Buddy the elf at the heart of this fantasy comedy. With an unexpected romance and so many laugh out loud moments and brilliantly quotable lines, it’s a true classic. That warm fuzzy feeling continues with Love Actually, the Richard Curtis directed film that follows the lives of eight very different couples dealing with their love lives in the build up to Christmas. With a brilliant ensemble cast including, Hugh Grant, Keira Knightley and Colin Firth, and a sound track to match this is the ultimate festive romantic comedy for a pre-Christmas date night!

Ahead of each screening, there will be a DJ playing and the venue will be festooned with twinkling lights to add extra festive sparkle. Some of the North’s finest street food vendors will be in attendance so that you can enjoy a bite to eat and a pop-up bar will be serving a selection of drinks throughout the evening.
