Reports of youths dressed up as Israeli soldiers carrying toy weapons outside a Mosque in Prestwich are being investigated

Youths dressed in orange jumpsuits and with some sporting what appeared to be fake weapons parked a truck outside Masjid-e-Bilal in Prestwich  and played loud music during taraweeh prayers.

In a statement released this evening,The Deputy Mayor of Greater Manchester Kate Green said

”We are aware of troubling reports about recent incidents in Prestwich which have caused concern and distress to members of the Muslim community.

These reports are being investigated by Greater Manchester Police, and they have also increased patrols in the area during the remainder of Ramadan. I have asked for an urgent update on the results of their investigations.

We will not tolerate any kind of behaviour that seeks to intimidate any community within our city-region. Anyone who has concerns about incidents of hate crime should report them to Greater Manchester Police.
