Police investigating the death of a man in a flat in Newton Heath on Sunday are no longer treated it as suspicious.

Police were called  by colleagues from NWAS to a report of concern for the welfare of a man on Graver Lane.

Sadly, the man – believed to be aged in his 40s – died a short time later, and formal identification has not yet taken place.

A post-mortem on Monday afternoon confirmed that there aren’t believed to be any suspicious circumstances around the man’s death.

A man who was arrested at the scene was questioned by detectives and has since been released with no further action to be taken against him.

Investigators from Central Park CID are continuing to help establish the circumstances around the man’s death as part of a file that is currently being prepared for the coroner.

Officers are working to identify and inform his next of kin so we can ensure they receive the necessary support.

Detective Inspector Rob Kennedy, of Central Park CID, said: “We’ve been keeping an open mind and following all available lines of enquiry ever since the man’s tragic passing on Sunday afternoon, which we are no longer treating as suspicious given the findings of the pathologist.

“Our priority is to inform the man’s family who don’t live in the UK, and every effort is being made to contact them so that they can be given the necessary support and space to grieve their loss.
