Police have issued a photo of a man they wish to speak to after a purse was stolen from a pensioners handbag in Walkden

The incident happened on Worsley Road North, at around 9:20am on 30 December.

The victim, a woman in her late 70s, reported she had been waiting at a bus stop on Worsley Road North, near the junction with Grosvenor Road when a man appeared to notice her and the bags she had placed behind her on the bus stop seat. A short time later, the man returned in what officers believe was a targeted attack.

He approached the victim from behind the bus stop, out of the victim’s line of sight, and attempted to steal her handbag. The victim turned around and held onto the bag, but the man repeatedly pulled at it with force. He then reached inside, stole her purse, and fled down Alexandra Road.

We would like to return the purse to its owner – it is described as mustard-coloured, made of leather and contained bank cards, loyalty cards, cash, and a silver good luck charm of sentimental value.

As a result of the attack, the victim sustained a back injury.

GMP would like to express our gratitude to the witnesses who stopped their vans to assist the victim immediately after the incident, providing support and helping ensure her safety.

Police have released images of a man they believe may be able to assist with their enquiries and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
