Police have brought in a Section 60 in the Brinnington area of Stockport after reports of a number of incidents over the weekend. There were further reports of groups of men carrying weapons during the incidents.
The section 60 authority – which grants officers extended powers to stop and search individuals within the area will run until 11am tomorrow morning
Extensive investigation work is currently ongoing and three men have been arrested on suspicion of aggravated burglary. Highly visible patrols will continue in order to provide reassurance within the community.
Detective Superintendent Helen Critchley, from GMP’s Stockport district, said: “Our number one priority is keeping the public safe and I believe this section 60 authority is proportionate and necessary following the incidents over the weekend.
“We have put extra patrols in place and we are utilising all lines of enquiry to ensure that we fully investigate the reports we received.”
