An “unorthodox crack team of cops’ take on ‘drug labs, arsonists, neo-Nazis and notorious murderers”.

That’s how Channel Four describe the new drama No Offence currently being filmed in Manchester by Shameless creator Paul Abbott.

The Lancashire born writer, who started his career with the Burnley Writers’ Circle before landing a scriptwriting role at Coronation Street and work as a producer for Cracker in the 1990’s, describes his new work as a precinct cop drama and also one of the funniest things he’s ever been allowed to put together.

The cast will include the thick of it’s Joanna Scanlan in the starring role along with Utopia’s Alexandra Roach and Elaine Cassidy.

Abbott says “No Offence’s cake mix is as bipolar as they get – it lurches from jet black laugh-out-loud, into fragile material on the turn of a sixpence. Writing three strong female leads is one thing. Writing women that men would choose as leaders has been particularly satisfying.”

The eight episodes of No Offence will kick off with a 75 minute opening episode followed by seven 60 minute episodes and will air on Channel 4 in 2015.
