A North of England will face major rail disruption today as Rail passengers face  a week of continuous disruption as an overtime ban by drivers and days of network shutdown begin

A series of shutdowns by the train drivers union ASLEF will see different rail Companies affected on different days

There will be no Northern or Transpennine services at all on Wednesday 31 January when ASLEF members – most of whom are employed as train drivers – stage their latest walk out.

On Saturday 3 February, there will be no Avanti West Coast service on any route and next Monday the 5th will see no Cross Country Services

With the overtime ban, Additional disruption is expected from Monday 29 January to Tuesday 6 February and customers are advised to check before they travel as there may be some short notice cancellations to services running on these days.

Mick Whelan, the boss of the train drivers’ union Aslef, blames the government for the next round of rail strikes in a long and bitter dispute that has dragged on for 18 months.

Ministers say they have made a fair offer that Aslef should put to members
