A new exhibition will give a deeply personal glimpse into the emotional world of dementia, viewed through the eyes of a daughter and carer.
In 2024, Jenny was leading Storybox sessions, a creative storytelling initiative for people living with dementia— and then her professional and personal world’s collided when her mother began showing signs of the condition.
“Mum moved into a care home, and then Covid happened, and I suddenly couldn’t be with her,” Jenny shares.
“So, I started taking photos. I’ve taken over 1,000 photos of my mum and me since 2020. Without realising it, I had created a visual archive of our relationship with dementia and each other.”
Through this work, Jenny invites audiences to explore new ways of discussing dementia—highlighting the importance of communication between carers and those affected. Our Long Goodbye opens a space for connection and considers how art can help us process and share difficult experiences with those we love.
Alongside the exhibition Jenny will be running a free Creative Writing Workshop on Saturday 21 June 13:00 – 15:00.
The Creative Writing Workshop is for anyone who has an experience of caring for or knowing somebody with dementia and wants to have a go at writing about dementia as well as other subjects. No experience is necessary. To book a place email Jenny Harris [email protected]
