This autumn’s Manchester Literature Festival will be launched with a special in conversation event with much loved comedian, broadcaster and now author Sarah Millican.
Sarah will be chatting about her debut book, How to be Champion, and sharing funny stories and proper advice on how to get past life’s blips – like being good at school but not good at friends, the excitement of IBS and how to blossom post-divorce.
If you’ve ever had to wear glasses at the age of six, worn an off-the-shoulder gown with no confidence, been contacted by an old school bully, lived in your childhood bedroom in your thirties, been gloriously dumped in a Frankie and Benny’s, cried so much you felt great, been for a romantic walk with a dog, worn leggings two days in a row even though they smelt of wee from a distance, then this is YOUR BOOK.
The show will be hosted by poet and comedian Kate Fox.
Other events include Roddy Doyle, discussing his books, his films, and his forthcoming novel, Smile, a book about how we all struggle to accommodate our past selves.
Reni Eddo-Lodge discussing her incisive new book, Why I’m No Longer Talking to White People About Race. Taking its title from the viral blog post that changed the conversation about race in the media, Reni’s book explores everything from the erasure of black history to the political purpose of white dominance, from the whitewashing of feminism to the link between class and race while Beloved author Michael Morpurgo delivers this year’s Castlefield Manchester Sermon. His sermon, All Things Bright and Beautiful,explores our ever diminishing connection to our natural surroundings and our myopia to a growing crisis. .
