The family of 78-year-old David Brooks who died in hospital after being hit by a car in Heywood have paid tribute to him.

David was hit by a blue Peugeot 206 travelling along Bury New Road road towards Heywood last Saturday evening around 7.30pm as he was crossing the road.

His family have said: “Our father was such a loving and genuine man, with a heart of gold.

“He was loved by everyone for being the fun loving character that he was and our hearts are broken by our loss.”

Police Constable Dermot Murray of GMP’s Serious Collision Unit, said: “My thoughts continue to be with David’s family and friends at this devastating time.

“I’m asking for anyone who was in the area, or who may have dash-cam footage to get in touch with police as soon as possible.”
