Following last week’s 5-0 win over Wigan Athletic, Rochdale was going into this weekend’s match in high spirits. However, they suffered their 9th defeat of the season with a 4-1 home loss to mid-table Gillingham. Despite having the majority of the possession, Gillingham was the more clinical in front of goal, making it 3-0 at half time with an O’Connell 90th minute goal as a consolation for Rochdale.

Wigan Athletic made it late in stoppage time to secure a 1-1 draw at playoff-chasing Fleetwood. In a fairly even match, the draw was the best outcome and sees Wigan edge to within three points of safety.

Into League Two and Keith Hill return to Bolton Wanderers was a triumphant one for their former manager. His new club Tranmere Rovers handed Bolton thier third defeat in five games and left the Trotters in mid-table, leaving Ian Evatt scratching his head to find any consistent form. Despite edging the possession and shots on goal, Wanderers could not find a way through and suffered another defeat.

Salford City made it four games without defeat, and creep into the playoff places with their 1-0 win over Harrogate. James Wilson’s 6th goal of the season was enough to earn an away victory for Richie Wellens’ men.

Oldham Athletic continue to climb the table with their third victory in the last five matches. Two late goals handed Oldham victory after they twice fought back to level against League Two leaders Newport County. Newport dominated the match and was leading at half time, only for two late goals in 85th and 93rd minute being enough to seal the win for Harry Kewell’s Oldham.

The FA trophy first round took place this weekend with Altrincham in action at Chester. Altrincham managed to keep up there League momentum with a 2-1 victory over the National League North side. Ashton United was also action, unfortunately, they lost 2-1 to Kettering Town. Stockport County made easy work of Guiseley, with a 3-1 win progressing them to the next round of the FA trophy.
