Nursery school teachers in Tameside, Rochdale, Bolton will be able apply for £4,500 bonuses under government efforts to boost standards
The scheme has been launched in twelve disadvantaged areas of the country and the teachers can apply for the grant from today, and it will be expanded to a further 20 parts of the country by the end of the year.
The initiative aims to close the gap in staffing qualifications and school readiness, bringing graduate-level teachers into local early years settings.
Director of the Early Education and Childcare Coalition, Sarah Ronan, said it was “right to do everything we can to close the gap” between disadvantaged children and their better-off peers.
She said: “It shouldn’t matter if you’re born in Sandwell or Middlesbrough, in Rochdale or Rotherham – every child deserves the best teachers, with the best tools at their disposal, to give them the very best start in life.”
