Led by City of Trees the aim is to celebrate the region’s treasure trove of trees and woodlands and encourage people to learn more about their amazing benefits.
The campaign launches on 1st November and each week will have a different topic from ‘trees and bees’- celebrating our pollinators, to highlighting our green heroes, as well as where to go in Greater Manchester.
Content in the form of videos, blogs as well as fun facts will be posted across City of Trees’ social media channels using the hashtag #GMTreeMonth.
People can get involved by spreading the word, having a go at activities such as building a bug hotel as well as sharing their experiences of visiting their park or local green space.
The movement has also teamed up partners such as Discover the Wild and Rhiane Fatinikun from Black Girls Hike who has created a series of videos showcasing some of the best walks in the region, close to our urban areas.
City of Trees is asking people to support their work by making a donation online via the website or by text (text GMTREEMONTH to 70085 to donate £5). Anyone making a regular gift in the month of November will receive a free pack of wildflower seeds.
Sarah Nurton from City of Trees says; “London have their very own tree week but as the late Tony Wilson said, one of the founders of Factory Records, ‘This is Manchester, we do things differently here’… so we’re really excited to be launching the first ever Greater Manchester Tree Month throughout November, celebrating the awesome trees and woods across the city region.”
