Plans to build a new Lidl store in Reddish have ended after the supermarket group withdrew its application over a dispute over the size of the car park and the proposed site  is now up for sale.

The scheme at Fir Tree Gorton Road North Reddish say Lidl internally is no longer viable for them to deliver.

They stated this is due to the extent of the changes required to address the Council’s concerns about the proposals.

In a post of the North Reddish Labour councillors group on Facebook, councillors said that they also mentioned the length of time since the application was first submitted, but that was their decision not to come to a fair agreement on the plans.

The key issue for Lidl was they wanted to extend the car park into North Reddish Park but Councillors refused to accept the proposal saying the Park is for the public not developers.

“We are disappointed that the supermarket will now not go ahead and now await any decision by LIDL as to who they may sell the land to .We will inform you of any news on future developments or plans for the site .” said the councillors
