A new seventeen storey office building is set to rise on Mount Street in the city centre replacing the current London Scottish House.

Plans to be put in front of the council’s planning committee this Thursday will see the demolition of the current five storey building built in 1973 which according to the report “is considered to be outdated in terms of its environmental credentials and doesn’t meet the requirements of modern day occupiers.”

Considered as having It little architectural or heritage significance it is considered to be out of keeping with other buildings in the surrounding area which forms part of the council’s Regeneration Framework for the Civic Quarter.

The new building, designed by London architects Eric Parry, will provide upmarket office space with shops on the ground floor.will accommodate sixteen thousand sq m of floorspace, with a separate ground floor unit providing 262 sq m of floorspace and car parking for 18 spaces.

The design features detailed glazed brick elevations, a double height pedestrian colonnade and a loggia at roof level. Upper floors will feature 360 degree views across the city.

The main concern will be the detrimental’ impact of the building on the skyline especially as it will tower over The Midland Hotel. However planning chiefs believe that these will be negated.
