Towards Memorial and Mo(nu)mentaries are the titles of two exhibitions by Yuen Fong Ling beginning at Bury Art Museum.

They include objects, film, photography, mixed artworks and artefacts, including pieces from Bury Art Museum’s collection.

Towards Memorial is a long-running project looing at how what you wear expresses your beliefs, through remaking pair of sandals designed and made by the socialist writer, poet, and activist Edward Carpenter (1844-1929). Members of Bury Council’s LGBTQ employee group are the latest recipients of the sandals.

New commission Mo(nu)mentaries is a limited-edition postcard pack which brings together selected artworks and artefacts from Bury Art Museum’s permanent collection and other sources. The postcards, to be worn in participants’ shoes, are designed by Jon Cannon and relate to feet, sandals, shoemaking, public gatherings, protest, the commission of public statues and monuments, and forms of memorial making.

The exhibition will reunite a selection of postcards that have been worn in their shoes by participants in the Bury Pride events.

The exhibitions run from 16 October 2021 to 22 January 2022. For more details, go to https://buryartmuseum.co.uk/Temporary-Exhibitions-Gallery

Bury Art Museum & Sculpture Centre is open from Tuesday to Friday, 10am to 5pm, and on Saturday from 10am to 4.30pm.
