He has been described as the most powerful man in Greater Manchester.

Today Eamonn Boylan, former chief executive at Stockport Council, will lead Greater Manchester through devolution into a new era of growth for residents and businesses following his appointment in January.
Eamonn said: “This is a new adventure and one I am looking forward to. Greater Manchester is a fantastic place and I’ve been privileged to work here for most of my career.

“To now take on the role of GMCA Chief Executive at this pivotal moment for our city-region is a great honour.”

Key aims for the new chief executive include affordable housing and ensuring growth is maximised across Greater Manchester.

Working to regenerate Hulme while at Manchester City Council is his proudest achievement to date, believing the work transformed not only the area but also the quality of people’s lives.

Eamonn added: “I want to make sure that everyone in Greater Manchester can reach their full potential by giving them greater skills, a better start in life and better social care.

“I understand the ambition and optimism of Greater Manchester and look forward to working with the mayor and leaders to make Greater Manchester the best place in the world to live and work.”

He first moved to Manchester as a student in 1978 and cites his lifelong passion for Manchester United as the key reason for this decision.
Before joining the GMCA Eamonn was Chief Executive at Stockport Council, with previous roles including Deputy Chief Executive at the Homes and Communities Agency, Deputy Chief Executive of Manchester City Council, Director of Housing and Community Services at Manchester and Director of Housing and Operational Services at Sheffield

Outside of work Eamonn enjoys walks with his family, music, drama, sport, wine and craft beer.
