A big birthday treat, a double helping of Afro-jazz, and a healthy serving of Beans on Toast are all on the menu at The Vale arts centre in Mossley, Tameside, this autumn and winter.
Everyone loves a birthday party, and The Vale is inviting all comers to help celebrate their fourth on Saturday 11 October 2025. Inspired by the floor-shaking rhythms and vibrant dances of north eastern Brazil, Juba do Leão will be steering a course towards the most intoxicating grooves from 7.30pm
. Celebrating their own 20th anniversary this year, every performance features booming bass drums and slicing snare lines that are guaranteed to get you dancing your socks off.
Making a night of it, the One Tree Island DJs will be manning the decks until midnight. With a motto of “Beats without borders”, they have been delivering pan-global, bass heavy, percussive grooves to the friendliest and most up for it dance floors for over 30 years.

Soothsayers and Ubunye. With a reputation as both a great live band and innovative studio producers, Soothsayers take universally uplifting Afrobeat and dub-infused jazz to the next level, combining high quality musicianship with a lyrical message, warm sonics and irresistible dance grooves.
Whilst Ubunye is a vibrant Afro-jazz band like no other! Featuring two powerful vocalists from South Africa’s KwaZulu Natal region, combined with a dynamic rhythm section and an array of guest artists, Ubunye’s music is a tasty blend of contemporary jazz, Afro-pop and traditional ‘Isigqui’ Zulu music. Ubunye won the best UK jazz ensemble award at the prestigious Parliamentary Jazz awards 2023 and is swiftly winning a legion of fans across the UK and beyond.
November sees folk innovators The Unthanks call in to The Vale as part of 20th year celebrations. Tickets sold out for the Saturday 15 November 2025 gig within hours, but you can try your luck by joining the waiting list.

is songs celebrate the human spirit, from the beauty of the everyday to the dilemmas of the modern world. Expect crowd favourites from years gone by, alongside fresh new songs about the state of the world. Catch Beans at The Vale on Saturday 22 November.
And finally, rounding off the year, on Friday 12 December 2025 are the Monster Ceilidh Band with their touring Christmas show. Featuring their famous electro-folk ceilidh style, along with traditional dance spots, the band are back following last year’s seasonal night to remember.
