The bioprint range of lights will include 360,000 low energy LEDs installed to 126 trees across the city centre and a fully LED Christmas tree at the Cathedral.
This amounts to 22 miles of LEDs that would stretch from Manchester city centre unbroken to Burnley town centre. And the majority of the decorations will be made using special 3D printing robots.
Manchester is the first UK city to use a lighting scheme that is predominantly made from renewable materials, with organically sources raw material and recycled aluminum.
In addition to the new scheme above, Manchester will also welcome ten festive light sculptures creating a trail around the city centre, with elements in St Peter’s Square, Cathedral Gardens and Piccadilly Gardens – as well as a new crib in St Ann’s Square.
The sculptures will include a giant Manchester bee alongside a variety of festive themes, such as a star and presents.
