Manchester City might be most famous as a member of the English Premier League, but this club also has its own esports division

Manchester City might be most famous as a member of the English Premier League, but this club also has its own esports division. Last week, the esports team has become a member of the UK Esports Teams Committee (UKETC), an organization dedicated to taking the UK’s esports industry to the next level.

According to the UKETC press release, Manchester City has joined the committee after expressing interest in “making positive changes” in the esports scene of the United Kingdom. In addition to the Manchester City esports department, another major team has joined the UKETC as well – Guild Esports.

Bright Future for Manchester City and Guild Esports

The esports universe keeps growing all the time. Not only is the number of esports fans estimated to be over half a million, but the number of esports bettors keeps growing too.

Esportsbettingtop, a site covering esports news, major esports events and betting sites, reports that there are dozens of online platforms which offer the possibility to bet on esports matches. That said, the esports betting industry is also bound to grow, which explains why big clubs which are successful in mainstream sports have decided to branch out to esports.

Manchester City, for instance, has been boosting its esports presence over the last couple of months, especially after teaming up with FaZe Clan, one of the world’s most successful esports organizations. So far, Man City and FaZe Clan have worked together on several pop-up events, as well as took part in a Fortnite tournament.

When it comes to Guild Esports, the UK-based esports company has recently partnered with Razers, as well as made some big changes regarding the team leadership. As of May 2022, the organization has teams in a number of esports, including FIFA, Rocket League, and Valorant.

The UKETC Keeps Pushing UK’s Esports Forward

the UK Esports Teams Committee is a relatively young organization, which launched last year with the intention of aiding the growth of esports in the United Kingdom. Initially, the committee consisted of seven UK-based esports organizations, with another five joining a few months later. With the addition of Manchester City and Guild Esports, the UKETC now numbers a total of 14 organizations.

In 2022, one of the main goals of the committee is to develop a Code of Conduct, which would address all the important obstacles standing on the road of esports expansion. Some of the key issues the committee is planning to tackle include online toxicity, as well as safeguarding voluntary jobs.
