As part of mental health awareness week, on the 10th May Manchester City Council and Read Manchester will be suggesting you to take 10

10 May, as part of mental health awareness week, Manchester City Council and Read Manchester will be asking communities, businesses and schools to take time out to see the impact 10 minutes of reading can have on their wellbeing.

The Take 10 challenge was launched by Manchester City Council in 2018 and has since been adapted by schools and organisations nationally. The scheme is for people of all ages and backgrounds – with the single goal of reading to improve people’s wellbeing through the therapeutic process of reading.

Manchester schools are invited to take part in an online event with television personalities Ant and Dec. The famous duo will be launching the Take 10 moment on 10 May 2022 online and will be hosting a session on the benefits of reading and they will be launching their debut novel ‘Propa Happy’.

Adults and organisations are also being encouraged to take part in Take 10. Read Manchester would like workplaces in the city to encourage their employees to take 10 minutes out of their day to read a book, magazine, newspaper or listen to an audiobook, with the hope that organisations will support their staff to join the challenge to boost their wellbeing and embed reading in their everyday lives.

Neil Macinnes OBE, Head of Libraries, Galleries and Culture said:
“The Take 10 campaign- which has now gone national- encourages people of all ages to have 10 minutes of solace and quiet in a day. The scheme proved to be popular when it was launched in 2018 and we hope to continue it every year so people can have 10 minutes to take some time to put their minds at ease and enjoy reading.

“We hope that families, young people, schools, and organisations will take part in Take 10 on Monday 10 May.- We can’t wait to see people getting involved and tag our accounts!”

The campaign is run by Manchester City Council and Read Manchester with help from the National Literary Trust.
