A charity in Manchester which uses music to support the development of children with disabilities, is celebrating winning a £5,000 award from the OneFamily Foundation.

The CEDE Foundation uses music and singing to improve the children’s motor skills and language development. Thanks to the award from the OneFamily Foundation, it can now provide therapeutic sessions to special educational needs (SEN) schools across Greater Manchester.

The money from the award will be used to pay specialist teachers to deliver the music clinics to 20 SEN schools across Manchester, benefiting more than 1,000 youngsters across the region. The charity helps young, disabled people develop a number of essential skills, such as memory and stress-management, by using music therapy in a fun and interesting way.

The charity was nominated for the award by OneFamily customer and charity trustee Bernard Nwaiwu, who said: “We are absolutely delighted to have won the award and we want to thank everyone who got behind us and voted. These sessions will make such a difference to so many children across Greater Manchester and we can’t thank OneFamily enough for helping to make the project happen.”

The OneFamily Foundation is a unique customer benefit fund, provided by mutual organisation, OneFamily, which has committed to make £5million available to its members over the next five years to make their lives and communities better.

James Hale, Customer Engagement Manager at OneFamily added: “We are delighted to award £5,000 to the CEDE Foundation to help fund their Singing festival project. Our community awards are designed for exactly this type of enterprise, and we hope that children across Manchester will continue to enjoy and benefit from the music therapy sessions.”
