Manchester Art Gallery is hosting a unique series of art-meets-food supper clubs in collaboration with Manchester Food and Drink Festival. Each exclusive event sees Manchester’s best chefs create a one-off, immersive dining experience, themed around exhibitions and taking place in the stunning surroundings of Manchester Art Gallery.

The supper clubs are designed to celebrate the greatest artists of our time, as part of an experience that will delight all the senses and offer real insight into their life, times – and, of course, food.

The first event in the season of four was the sold out spectacular, Dine with Da Vinci. This authentic Italian supper club was created by local specialists Salvi’s on Saturday 27 April and tickets for the final three events have just gone on sale.

The season continues with ‘A Midsummer Nordic Feast’ with acclaimed local chef, Mary-Ellen McTague on Friday 28 June hosted in the Gallery’s glass roofed atrium space. This event takes inspiration from the gallery’s popular Nordic Craft and Design exhibition and includes a drinks reception, private tour of the show, and a four course Scandinavian inspired banquet. There will be Nordic ambient music as well as authentic Scandi decor and tableware.

Next up is a contemporary Spanish ‘Get Together with El Gato Negro’s Simon Shaw’ on Saturday 7 September. The award-winning chef-patron (who owns El Gato Negro and Ancoats’ Portuguese restaurant, Canto) will be creating a breathtaking Spanish sharing feast menu inspired by the new group show, Get Together and Get Things Done. Tickets include a glass of sparkling wine on arrival, live music and entertainment throughout the evening.

The final event in the season sees Aiden Byrne, owner and executive chef at Restaurant MCR teaming up with the art gallery curators for ‘The Art of Dining’ – on Saturday 5 October.

Aiden’s event celebrates the wider aspects of the Art Gallery’s extensive collection – not just focusing on one exhibition, but on the finest pieces of the gallery’s outstanding artworks. The chef, famously the youngest in the UK to secure a Michelin star, will cook a six-course tasting menu with each dish inspired by a different piece of art displayed in the gallery.

As each course is served, guests will hear from the curators and Aiden who will guide them through the art and the dish. A magical opportunity to celebrate two of life’s greatest pleasures in one of the city’s most magnificent venues.
