Police has arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of attempted murder in Oldham
He is currently in custody for questioning.
His victim a man in his 80s was found at an address address on Stoneleigh Road with several injuries.
He was taken to hospital, where he remains in life-threatening condition.
Superintendent Cara Charlesworth said: “We currently have a man in custody following a serious assault that took place yesterday evening in Oldham.
“We understand this incident may cause distress amongst the community, but we would like to reassure the public that we believe the victim and suspect are known to each other and pose no risk to the wider community.
“Our officers remain dedicated to tackling incidents of this nature and are working around the clock to establish to full circumstances and ensure those involved are held responsible.
“As we conduct a thorough investigation, we will have an increased police presence around the area, and I encourage anyone in the community to please speak with them and raise any concerns or queries you may have.”
