Oldham’s longest standing amateur theatre is taking audiences round the world this season, stopping off in Ireland at the end of March.

Playing from 27 March – 4 April, Hugh Leonard’s bittersweet comedy sees Drumm – old, curmudgeonly and regretful – dreaming his way through the play, pondering his mortality. He let the love of his life slip though his fingers 40 years ago and, through alternating scenes from 1938 and 1978, we see how it happened.

The eight strong cast includes mother and daughter Maggie and Ruth Blaszczok playing the same character 40 years apart, alongside Lyceum favourites and new faces.

Peter Fitton is directing for the first time at the theatre, but will be known to audiences at Rochdale’s Curtain Theatre, where he was Drama Director from 2013-2019. He told us “People, I would hope, will empathise and see something of themselves in the talk of wasted opportunities and the comedy of embarrassment.”

A Life by Hugh Leonard runs from 27 March – 4 April 2020 at 7.30pm (no performance Sunday 29 March). Tickets are £9 each.
