Following summer sell-out tours of this iconic, Grade II listed building, Jonathan Schofield will once again guide the public through the historic corridors of London Road, to coincide with the Fire Station’s first Christmas in 30 years.
Schofield’s summer tours attracted over 3000 attendees, igniting public interest in this much-loved Manchester landmark.
The Fire Station is currently home to the Winter Gathering; nine weeks of winter revelry comprising street food, live music, markets and skating courtesy of Manchester Ice Rink.
The tours will re-populate this once home of emergency services workers; bringing to life the history enclosed within the grand walls of the Engine Room, the Coroner’s Court and courtyard.
Throughout the journey, the tour will tell the stories of the people who have lived, worked and socialised at London Road since the building first opened in 1906. Running in tandem with the Winter Gathering, tours will begin on the December 3rd and run on Wednesday and Thursday’s, Saturday’s and Sunday’s across the winter period. Tickets will cost £10 per person.
Purchased by award-winning developers, Allied London at the end of 2015, London Road Fire Station has also previously opened its doors to the public via a series of events, including Made Here with Design Manchester and the Hidden Banquets in collaboration with Manchester Food and Drink Festival.
Allied London’s plans for London Road will see this iconic space become a place of experience, with an international collective of world class operators, interesting brands and innovative hospitality. Over five floors, London Road will become ‘One Space’ – one collaborative destination with a multitude of aspects; including boutique hotel from world renowned operator The Zetter Group, signature restaurant, destination bar, event/leisure space, workspace, visitor attraction and spa to name but a few.
