In Oldham the big shock of the night has seen for the second successive year the Labour leader of the council lose their seat

Arooj Shah lost the seat of Chadderton South to the Tories with Robert Barnes the new councillor.

Last year saw Sean Fielding lose his Failsworth seat to an Independent candidate

There was also a Tory gain from Labour in Royton North while the Lib Dems gained Saddleworth West and Lees from Labour

Overall Labour lost five seats on the council but still holds the council .

The Lib Dems remain the largest party on the council with no overall control

They have 28 seats, Labour has 25,The Tories have 5,the Greens 2 and there are 3 Independents after the results tonight

There were some changes

Elizabeth Crix from the Green Party gained the seat of Reddish South from Labour while the Lib Dem Ian Powney gained the seat of Bramhall South & Woodford
from the Deputy Tory leader John McGahan

Labour’s Christine Carrigan gained Stepping Hill,while the Lib Dems gained Bramhall .

In Salford There was a shock in Ordsall where the Lib Dems gained a seat from Labour with Chris Twells defeating John Welsh by 92 votes while the Quays seat also fell to the Lib Dems

Conservative eight seats
Liberal Democrats two seats
Independent one seat

In Wigan the Tories lost their group leader on Wigan Council, Michael Winstanley, loses seat in Orrell by 34 votes with Labour’s David Wood elected while Labour also made gains in Shevington and Hindley Green.

The Tories remain the largest party in Bolton after the local elections with the council in no overall control

The former Labour councillor Debbie Newall won the Farnworth and Kearsley seat with a majority of 384 over second-placed Peter Flitcroft from Farnworth & Kearsley First

In Tameside there was a Tory gain in Ashton Hurst with Lucy Turner taking the seat from Labour candidate Dolores Turner while they also gained the long held Labour seat
of Hyde Godley
