A sense of community spirit has been injected into the heart of Altrincham with locally produced youth artwork now on display around the interchange.

Working in partnership with Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College and Mid Cheshire Community Rail Partnership, Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has installed four illustrative pieces on platform one, along with 13 Marvellous Days Out posters, around the transport hub.

The art installations support a survey last year, where customers requested a number of improvements to the tram, train and bus interchange.

TfGM have looked at the findings of the 2017 survey and have cleaned up the tracks, added a new photo booth and made improvements on safety and hygiene – including improved lighting and clearer signage – to improve the customer’s overall experience.

Michael Keating, TfGM’s Rail Stations Manager, said: “It’s absolutely fantastic we have been able to get the local community involved in the development of Altrincham Interchange.

“Following the customer survey last November, we took on board everyone’s comments and have actively looked to make improvements.

“Making the interchange a more accessible and pleasant place for all is something we are really keen to do, and this is the next step to a brighter future.”

Leanne Harris, Head of Art at Blessed Thomas Holford Catholic College, added: “Having the student’s artwork on display around the interchange really allows us to capture the community spirit.

“It’s something that everyone involved can be really proud of for years to come.”
