A free talk on the life and work of John Dalton, father of modern chemistry and pioneer of research into colour blindness, will take place this Saturday

Local historian John Doughty (an accredited guide for the Museums of Science and Industry) provides the background on Dalton’s life, who lived and worked in Manchester from 1792, in a special talk which is part of the ‘Eye Know How’ activity strand of Waterside Arts Centre’s Object Recognition exhibition, supported by the Wellcome Trust and the University of Manchester.

John will explore Dalton’s life and work in 19th century Manchester and detail his work on colour blindness. Dalton was the first to describe the condition and it is so closely associated with him that it was sometimes known as ‘Daltonism’.
