Oldham Athletic have signed striker Jonathan Benteke on a short-term deal until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

Benteke started his career in his native Belgium coming through the youth ranks with Standard Liège.

Following his release, he joined Visé in the Belgian Second Division and made 20 appearances, scoring two goals.

A two-year spell at Belgian First Division side Zulte-Waregem followed where he scored twice in 25 appearances.

He linked up with his brother Christian Benteke at Crystal Palace in 2016 and made one Premier League appearance before injury ruled him out for the rest of the campaign.

Benteke has recently been on trial with the club and scored in the Lancashire Senior Cup game against AFC Fylde last week.

Should international clearance be received, the 22-year-old will be available for Saturday’s game against Blackburn Rovers.
