Wigan have confirmed the signing of Everton forward Nathan Broadhead for the 2022/23 season.

Broadhead, 24, joins Latics on loan for the current Championship campaign, on the back of a successful spell with Sunderland in League One last season.

Capped by Wales at U21 level, Broadhead was also called up to Rob Page’s senior squad this summer, though his first senior cap was delayed due to injury.

Hailing from Bangor, Broadhead signed for Everton at the age of 10 and made his first team debut in December 2017, featuring alongside former Latics Joel Robles and Beni Baningime in a 3-0 UEFA Europa League victory against Apollon Limassol.

Broadhead’s first loan spell away from Goodison Park came at Burton Albion, where he played 22 league games and scored three goals, including two on his first start for the Brewers in a 2-1 win at Gillingham.

After making his Premier League debut days after his 23rd birthday in a goalless draw at Brighton & Hove Albion in April of last year, the Welshman joined Sunderland on loan for the 2021/22 season and went on to enjoy a prolific campaign on Wearside.

Broadhead’s first goal for the Black Cats came in their 2-0 win at the DW Stadium in the Third Round of the Carabao Cup before the forward added a further 12 strikes in a total of 27 appearances in all competitions.
