Wigan manager Leam Richardson was full of praise for the performance of his side, and of the Club’s Academy players, despite exiting the Carabao Cup.

On a proud night for the 3PL Academy, nine players from the U21s were involved in Richardson’s side, with them all giving an extremely good account of themselves in their narrow 1-0 defeat at Fleetwood Town.

Speaking to Latics TV, Richardson was proud of the performance and effort levels of his side, although Ged Garner’s first-half header meant they fell on the wrong side of the result.

Five different players got on the scoresheet after manager Evatt had made eight changes from the side that started last Saturday’s 3-0 League One win over Wycombe.

Salford head coach said after the game that his side aren’t going to be deterred by the defeat.

“Obviously it’s a disappointing result, no one wants to get beat by that scoreline.

“I thought we started off well, we went ahead. We knew that we could cause some trouble down the sides and that was our plan, which we scored through Brandon, down the side with a great finish.

“We knew before the game it was going to be a tough game, Bolton are a good team, they’ve got a very good squad to challenge for good places in League One, and you could see that.

Rochdale Manager Robbie Stockdale has praised his players following Dale’s 2-0 Carabao Cup Round One win over Burton Albion. He also thanked fans for their support.

Goals from James Ball and Devante Rodney secured the well deserved victory over the League One side, at the Crown Oil Arena. 

“I’m very pleased,” said the gaffer.“I thought we thoroughly deserved the win – I thought we were the better team throughout.
