Figures out this morning suggest that one in seventy people in the North West are infected with Covid.

London continues to have the highest proportion of people likely to test positive for coronavirus in any region of England, with around one in 60 people in private households estimated to have had Covid-19 in the first week of February.

Eastern England, the East Midlands and the West Midlands are estimated to be at the same level as the North West while it is one in 95 for Yorkshire and the Humber, one in 100 for north-east England and south-west England; and one in 105 for south-east England.

The figures equate to 695,400 people in total.

In Wales, it was one in 85 in the same week, in Northern Ireland one in 75 and in Scotland around one in 150.

Meanwhile The R value, of Covid transmission across the UK is between 0.7 and 0.9, according to the latest government figures
