Labour’s Lancashire Council leader Azhar Ali, has been selected to stand for the party in the by election in Rochdale following the death of Sir Tony Lloyd.
He was selected ahead of political journalist Paul Waugh and Wigan councillor Nazia Rehman for what is considered a safe seat
He will face former Labour MP George Galloway who announced on X that
“The best way to get #StarmerOut and teach #GenocideLabour a lesson is to support me in the forthcoming #RochdaleByElection I got 21.8% in Batley and Spen. If I’d got 1% more #Starmer would’ve been out already!
