King Charles III is to be joined by Princes William and Harry in walk behind Queen Elizabeth II’s coffin this morning as it is taken from Buckingham Palace to lie in state at Westminster Hall

The coffin will be borne in Procession on a Gun Carriage of The King’s Troop Royal Horse Artillery to the Palace of Westminster.

The coffin arrived in London last night having been accompanied on a plane from Edinburgh by the Princess Royal who said in a statement

“I was fortunate to share the last 24 hours of my dearest Mother’s life. It has been an honour and a privilege to accompany her on her final journeys.

“Witnessing the love and respect shown by so many on these journeys has been both humbling and uplifting.”

Mourners cheered as the hearse travelled down Constitution Hill and around the Queen Victoria Memorial before driving through the gates of the palace and through the central arch into the quadrangle

The King was joined by his siblings and both his sons to witness the late Queen’s coffin arriving at Buckingham Palace after pledging to follow his mother’s “shining example” in Northern Ireland

The Government has issued more advice to people wishing to pay their respects to the late Queen during the lying in state which begins at 5.00pm this afternoon

“If you wish to attend the Lying-in-State in person, please note that there will be a queue, which is expected to be very long. You will need to stand for many hours, possibly overnight, with very little opportunity to sit down as the queue will be continuously moving.”

The queue will start where Albert Embankment meets Lambeth Bridge in Central London, on the south side of the River Thames. From Albert Embankment, the queue will continue along the south bank of the Thames.
