In a hard hitting interview this morning on the BBC Keir Starmer has said the Reform’s plan to deport migrants who are in the UK legally is “racist”

Starmer told the BBC’s Laura Keunssberg ahead of the Labour Party Conference that Reform’s Policy announced last week will rip this country apart’ adding that the policy to deport migrants who are here legally – on indefinite leave to remain- is “racist” & “immoral”

“I do think it a racist policy. I do think it is immoral. It needs to be called out for what it is”

“I love and have pride in my country and I want to serve the whole of our country, our beautiful, tolerant diverse country.“ he said

Starmer said that he doesn’t think Reform is trying to appeal to racists but that people are just frustrated and want change.

Asked whether he will break his manifesto promise not to raise VAT he said that the pledge not to raise VAT, income tax or national insurance ‘stands’

And of the Labour Party Conference he said that “At the end of it people can agree or disagree, but they can’t say they don’t know what we stand for, what this government is trying to achieve.”

Meanwhile a poll for Labour List has found that the majority of Labour members – at 53% – want a change of leadership going into the next general election
