A man from Gorton area has been jailed for eight and a half years after being found guilty of an arson attack with intent to endanger life.

Sajid Hamid,49of Sandringham Street, Gorton, was sentenced today m at Manchester Crown Court, sitting at Manchester Hilton Hotel, after being found guilty at a trial on May 21 to one count of serious domestic-related Reckless Arson (none injury).

The court heard how, on 19 July 2019, Hamid had deliberately thrown a flame-lit bottle containing petrol at the front door of his victim’s home before running away.

Thankfully, no one was in the property at the time. However, it did cause extensive internal and external damage.

The victim has been granted an indefinite restraining order.

Detective Constable Paul Wilde, of GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “It is clear that Hamid had no care for anyone he may have harmed in committing this crime.

“The outcome of this could have been absolutely devastating but fortunately, no one was harmed.”

“The victim has shown incredible strength and bravery throughout this investigation.

“I want to thank her for her cooperation, and I hope that today’s sentence acts as some form of justice for the distress Hamid put her through.”
