Greater Manchester was woken to heavy rain and thunder and lightning this morning as the glorious Indian summer of the past few days came to an end.

12.2mm of rain fell earlier with 8mm falling in just seven minutes according to Oldham weather

There have been reports of numerous minor collisions on the roads and the anticlockwise exit slip road at J17 on the M60 is currently closed due to flooding in the carriageway.

The latest forecast from Oldham weather says

“Thundery rain moving away around 10am. Following this it will be generally drier with a few bright spells, odd shower & still feeling quite warm.

A band of heavy rain, perhaps thundery will arrive mid-afternoon lasting a few hours.”
