Salford-based brewer Hydes has announced the third installment of its 2026 hairstyle-themed seasonal ale range with the March launch of ‘A Cut Above’.
This English golden ale hits Hydes bars across the North West and North Wales just as the Six Nations rugby championship enters its final, decisive matches.
Following the February run of the dark and rugged Mullet Over, A Cut Above offers a shift in style and profile. This 4% ABV brew presents a striking dark golden hue, achieved through a precise blend of Vienna and Cara malts. The choice of grains provides a sturdy backbone that supports a sophisticated bouquet of English Boadicea hops, resulting in a pint that balances spicy, floral notes with a light, crisp malt presence on the nose.
Hydes’ 2026 seasonal cask ale calendar has already gained significant traction following the successful debuts of Hairy Porter and Mullet Over. This year-long celebration of iconic haircuts uses bold pump clip designs and creative storytelling to engage cask enthusiasts. A Cut Above continues this momentum, trading the heavy, roasted tones of winter for a brighter, more spring-like drinking experience.
Managing Director of Hydes, Adam Mayers, believes the latest addition to the range is perfectly timed for the changing season. He said: “A Cut Above is exactly what the name suggests, a well-groomed, premium golden ale that stands out on the bar. We wanted something that felt refined yet accessible, especially as the atmosphere builds toward the conclusion of the Six Nations. It is a beer designed for those long afternoons in the pub where quality and drinkability are important.
“Customer feedback on our themed range has been fantastic so far. By pairing high-quality brewing with a bit of personality and humour, we are starting great conversations between our pub teams and our customers. A Cut Above is a testament to that balance, offering a clean, floral finish that signals the arrival of spring.”
