It’s always important to reward your team, but it’s often easier to focus on rewarding the staff you see around than those who are working from home. As an employer, you might find it difficult to engage and support your remote workers as much as you’d like to.

Here are some reward strategies that you can use to support your remote workers and how they ‘work.’

Celebrate remote workers’ successes as part of the team

All workers want to feel appreciated and while something like a company-wide email is nice, it doesn’t reap the same benefits as more individual rewards do.

Employees are more likely to continue with their hard work if they feel that their efforts are recognised and rewarded – so make sure that all employees, especially those who are working remotely, receive recognition.

Alternative reward options

The more personal your employee rewards are, the more likely they are to be successful. Obviously, it goes without saying that the better you know your staff, the better you’ll be able to work out the kinds of rewards that will be effective for them.

With remote workers, it’s harder to get to know personal details about them so you’ll have to get creative. Experiences and day trips are great options for the most part and are certain to make those remote workers feel more seen and appreciated.

One of the most common rewards in the office is everyone getting a food delivery when certain goals are reached. You can work with delivery drivers to send lunches or treats to your remote workers and then set up group calls so everyone can enjoy together.

Consider wellness programs

Employee wellbeing programs are very popular as employee rewards but it’s harder for remote workers to join in with them. We’re not saying that wellbeing is something that workers need to earn but having wellness programs in place and giving remote workers access to things like counselling and mediation apps will encourage greater wellbeing among those who aren’t based in the office.

LinkedIn recommendations

Something that employers can do to support employees is to write them a recommendation on LinkedIn. This shows the employee that you recognise them and appreciate their work, whilst publicly displaying to everyone else that they are a hardworking and dutiful employee.

Personalised notes

As a manager, taking the time to personally craft a note that shows your employees and their loved ones how hard working they are will go a long way towards supporting them, no matter where they’re based.

You could even invite other team members to shout out or add a little note to show some extra appreciation for the hard work of that team member.

Home office renovation

With more people working from home than ever before, it’s extra important that employees have a suitable place to work from. It’s expensive to create your ideal work environment. One thing you can do as an employee to support your remote workers is to give them cash rewards that they can put towards their home office.

And there you have it – just a few ways in which an effective rewards system can support a healthy remote or hybrid working culture.
