Six men have bee. arrested on suspicion of violent disorder following disturbances overnight in Levenshulme.

Police were called to Merlewood Avenue to multiple reports of a disturbance.

Some of the reports were of gunshots being fired and that a man had been struck with a car.

Armed response officers attended and secured the scene to preserve as much evidence as possible.

A man in his 40s was found by officers with a serious leg injury as a result of being involved in a collision. He was taken to hospital where he remains for treatment.

A 22-year-old man later presented himself at hospital with injuries to his head.

Those arrested have been bailed pending further enquiries.

The scene will remain in place on Merlewood Avenue to allow enquiries to continue however, from what officers know at the moment, there is no evidence of a firearms discharge.

Detective Inspector John Robb of GMP’s City of Manchester Division, said: “While this happened in the early hours of the morning, I know the disturbance was heard by a number of people in the local area so, if we haven’t already spoken to you and you haven’t told us what you know, please do so at the earliest opportunity.

“You will see officers both at the scene and around the area, gathering as much evidence as they can but if you have any concerns or want to pass on information to officers, please feel free to that directly to them or you can contact us anonymously.

“Video footage, whether that be from dashcams, CCTV or mobile phones, is particularly helpful in an investigation so I’d like to make a specific request for those who filmed anything to get in touch with us urgently.”
