There has been still no decision on whether Greater Manchester will be placed in Tier 3 lockdown

Matt Hancock the Health Secretary is due to make an announcement in the House of Commons at 11.30 but there appears to be agreement on financial support.

There will be another meeting between Andy Burnham and the Government later today

One leader told BBC Manchester’s Kevin Fitzpatrick that “We gave them some financial demands but he closed the meeting with “we’ll take these away and come back to you but it’s unlikely because there is no money left”.

Jim McMahon the Oldham MP tweeted

“The Covid-19 meeting with Government is over and it was absolutely pointless. No consultation, no evidence was shared on the likely impact of further measures, no economic analysis and no enhanced financial support.Wouldn’t even tell us if GM is being placed in T3 lockdown!“

While Oldham Council leader Sean Fielding tweeted

I am far from a seasoned negotiator but the GM meeting just now was a masterclass in how not to do it.

Opening line from Govt: “We either do tier 3 with you or impose it.”

And then absolutely nothing is offered to bring us on side because “there is no money.”

Greater London has been placed into Tier 2 lockdown it has been announced this morning which will mean that for the capital there will be no household mixing indoors and people are discouraged from using public transport
