The Government is set to announce that Police and Crime Commissioner roles will be abolished

The Home Office will confirm plans to get rid of PCCs and hand over oversight of policing to mayors and councils

Greater Manchester’s Police Commissioner is its Mayor Andy Burnham, the two roles were merged when the region was given powers to directly elect a Mayor over ten years ago

The move will be seen a the biggest shake up of policing for a decade

The Commissioners  were introduced under David Cameron’s Government in 2012 in an effort to boost the accountability and performance of police forces.

Tony Lloyd was elected as the first commissioner for Greater Manchester

The Government is expected to give more details in an announcement later
